FCS Office of the Superintendent Header

Dear Pierce Elementary School Families,

We hope this letter finds you well. We are excited to share some important news regarding the transition to the newly renovated Doyle-Ryder Education Center! As we prepare for this exciting change, we want to ensure that all families have a clear understanding of the details and what they can expect during this transition.

The transition to the Doyle-Ryder Education Center will begin on the first day of school, in the fall. This state-of-the-art facility has been designed to provide an enhanced learning environment for our scholars, with improved classrooms, resources, and facilities.

Flint Community Schools (FCS): School Transition Information

Here are some key details to keep in mind during the transition: The directions and instructions listed below are based on the scholar(s) current address in Synergy. If your address has changed, be sure to get in touch with the Centralized Enrollment office immediately, located at Flint Community Schools’ Administration Building, 923 E. Kearsley Street, Flint, MI 48503. OFFICE: (810) 767-6158

Residential Scholars (Scholars who reside within Pierce Elementary School’s current boundary):

1. Scholars will automatically be transferred to their new school boundary of Doyle Ryder Education Center.

2. If parent(s) want scholars to attend a school other than Doyle Ryder, parent(s) must complete a transfer request and other necessary paperwork for the building of their choice in Centralized Enrollment.

3. Parent(s) are responsible for transporting transfer permit scholars.

Transfer Permit Scholars (Scholars currently on transfer permit to attend Pierce Elementary School.)

1. Scholars will automatically be transferred to Doyle Ryder without any additional paperwork.

2. Parent(s) have the option to return scholars to their residential school.

3. Parent(s) have the option to select another FCS school through the transfer permit process. (Both option 2 and 3 require additional paperwork.)

4. Parent(s) will continue to be responsible for scholars’ transportation to school.

Classroom Overage Scholars (Scholars assigned to Pierce Elementary School due to classroom overages because their residential school/grade is at capacity and transportation was provided, this policy ends June 30th).

1. The district will not provide transportation for scholars placed in Pierce Elementary School due to classroom overages to attend Doyle Ryder Education Center.

2. Parent(s) have the option to return scholars to residential school, additional paperwork is required.

3. Scholars will be automatically transferred to Doyle Ryder; parents must complete a transfer permit confirming they will be responsible for the transportation of scholars to Doyle Ryder for them to remain. Transfer permit forms are available in Centralized Enrollment.

4. The option to attend another FCS school requires parents to complete the transfer permit paperwork (not just the form) in Centralized Enrollment.

We are confident that Doyle-Ryder Education Center will provide an even better learning environment for our families, and we are excited to embark on this new chapter together. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support during this transition period.

If you have any questions or require further information, please feel free to contact Dr. Shamarion Grace at Pierce Elementary School. We are here to assist you in any way we can.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for entrusting us with your child's education. We look forward to a successful transition and a bright future at Doyle-Ryder Education Center.

Sincerely,

Kevelin B. Jones II
